Our Origin Story
As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, I’ve been interested in health, wellness, and all things food-related from a very young age. I was born in Hong Kong and later moved to Vancouver, BC, where I grew up. My father was a restaurateur, so I was exposed to various fresh ingredients and different cuisines all throughout my childhood.
However, it wasn’t until my own pregnancy that I redefined what self-care and wellness meant to me, and the value in the natural nourishment way of life. I was 36 weeks pregnant at a routine check-up, and I learned I needed to have an emergency cesarean section in a matter of days to safely deliver my baby, Jasper, due to an unforeseen medical condition.
I was absolutely floored.
Although this was indeed a medical emergency that required immediate attention, and outside of my control, everything that I had known in my life up to this point was questioned. Feelings of inadequacy flooded to the surface as I couldn’t shake the thought that I had already failed my son as a new mother, despite knowing that this was something completely out of my hands.
After safely delivering my baby due to the technological advances in Western medicine, I knew I wanted to take charge of my healing journey. I looked to my Eastern roots and sought guidance from ancient wisdom and traditions in the Asian culture. I read anything I could get my hands on, scoured the Internet, and consulted with multiple holistic and Eastern practitioners all over the world, and developed a knowledge base, unlike any other. I learned to connect with my body and listen to what I was feeling. I also learned the importance of self-love and care. I now know to value my body as a masterpiece, capable of amazing and beautiful things, and to prioritize caring for myself.
Through this incredible journey filled with extensive research, I founded the Gaia Method with the pursuit of nourishing and healing mamas through eating targeted foods, staying active, and getting the care you need. My method fuses ancient Eastern wisdom with modern Western culture to guide you in all things nutrition and wellness for your unique pregnancy experience.
I believe all women are Gaia’s and have the right to feel like the goddess they are. By supercharging your diet and adequately caring for yourself, it is possible to thrive, not just survive this momentous and transformative period in your life.
The Gaia Method is based on four core values: creating a luxury experience as a goddess, self-care, natural nourishment, and travel & exploration. I’m so excited to share them with you and to empower you to live your life as the Gaia you were always meant to be.
The Goddess
For most women, being pregnant, and the physical act of giving birth is viewed as a challenging time. With the sheer volume of information out there on the do’s and don’ts of pregnancy, and the constant worry of your unborn child, it’s no wonder most women are feeling overwhelmed and fatigued by the information overload.
From juggling work obligations, doctors’ appointments, and spending time with friends and family, the added stress of caring for yourself and your baby can sometimes get pushed to the back burner with a never-ending to-do list.
With the right care and nourishment for your body, I believe pregnancy can be a stunning, gorgeous, and sexy experience, free of the fear and anxiety issues mentioned above.
You deserve to feel beautiful and glowing from the inside out, and I’m here to show you the natural goddess within. Your wellness experience should not only deliver valuable information but leave you feeling pampered and cared for. Even spa-like!
Self-Care
By nourishing your mind and body, you are giving the best possible care for your baby and his or her new beginning.
Pregnancy is, in fact, the best and most precious time to optimize both baby and mom’s health. It’s time you can’t afford to waste or procrastinate in getting the complete care you need.
The Gaia Method treats self-care not as a luxury but as a necessity for mothers. Through movement, clean, whole nutrition, and combining alternative modalities of Eastern and Western medicine, our courses on Pregnancy and Postpartum give you all the information you need to feel empowered to have the most beautiful pregnancy experience, unique to you.
If women naturally nourish themselves before, during, and after pregnancy, they are more likely to feel radiant, deliver a baby that’s as healthy as possible, and recover faster.
Natural Nourishment
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Vivian, I know I need to drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetables.” Our approach to natural nourishment goes one step further in that we provide an elevated means to wellness by offering natural alternatives most women aren’t even aware of through the fusion of Eastern and Western modalities.
Our emphasis on the synergy of ancient wisdom and traditions, coupled with modern medicine, helps to create the most holistic and naturally nourishing practice. I want to show you how you can supercharge your diet, from bone broths to healing, savory elixirs, matcha moringa lattes, and more.
We showcase epicurean recipes, expert-approved exercises, skincare tips, and ancient wisdom for the modern mama. Our curated experience features star ingredients from the ancient far East and beyond.
Although most natural modalities from the East seem very staunch and strict with their views on pregnancy and postpartum, we want to promote a culture of inclusivity and a support network for all the mama’s and mama’s to be out there. We believe every woman is a goddess and deserves to feel like one in both mind and body.
Exploration
Exploration is the enduring characteristic of all TGM mamas, whether it’s traveling to a new place or being open to alternative forms of medicine and wisdom.
My travels throughout Asia and the world have personally enabled me to experience new cultures and unique food experiences such as truffle hunting in Italy, making coconut milk in Bora Bora, attending a matcha tea ceremony in Uji, Japan, and harvesting seaweed in my home state of British Columbia.
As an authentic teacher and deeply passionate guide, I want women to feel empowered and supported. I believe knowledge means more choice, and connecting with our bodies allows us to be more attuned to one’s self.
With these authentic travel experiences and through my work as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, I’ve merged my best practices into a one-of-a-kind, modern, and refined take on self-care. We want all of our mamas’ to feel empowered and confident that they have the knowledge and information they need to have a happy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Travel Log to Athens
In the creation of The Gaia Method brand, our team traveled to Athens, Greece – the home of ancient gods and goddesses in Greek mythology. Athens holds a special place in our hearts as it blends our Exploration and Goddess core values all in one, with a sprinkle of history in between. You can expect to see lots of the images that took place on this trip throughout the TGM website and social media accounts!
As a fellow mama, I know how you are feeling and I want to provide you with the knowledge I’ve acquired to make both your pregnancy and postpartum experience as healthy as possible. I’ve done the research; I’ve read countless books, and I’ve studied the works of multiple East and West practitioners so you don’t have to.
